The roots of the sociology of education were laid in the late 19th century and early 20th century

Is.  In 191, the sociologist Herbert Spencer asked, 'Which knowledge is most valuable?'  His essay of the same name raised an important question about the social functions of education.  This essay was widely discussed and under its influence, later sociologists as well as academics began to accept the social functions of education.  Is.  In his 12th book, Dynamic Sociology, Ward emphasized his social work, describing society as "a tool for progress".  Small E.C.  19 wrote that teachers who understood their social work would never be satisfied with simply sending their children to the upper classes because "sociology requires teachers to consider themselves not as the leaders of children, but as the builders of society". [3]

Emil Durkheim was the first sociologist to explicitly emphasize the need for a sociological approach to the study of education.  In his book, Education and Sociology (19–1902), he states that "education is clearly social in its origin, function and form; no single or ideal type of education is possible for all groups."  Durkheim views education not as a stagnant social phenomenon, but as a dynamic and ever-changing social phenomenon. [3]

The period from 150 to 180 marked two important events for the development of the sociology of education;  The Department of Educational Sociology was opened at New York University's School of Education under the presidency of George Payne, who is considered the father of the sociology of education.  17th Monthly Magazine named 'Journal of Educational Sociology' launched.
